Islamic Coins, Abbasid, al-Wathiq; governor Ja'far, dinar, San'a' 232h, wt. 3.27gms (Bernardi 154El; A. 1052), clipped, very fine, very rare
Early issues of Abbasid dinars from the mint of San'a' were originally struck around the weight of 4.25 grams, but later the Yemeni dinar was reduced in weight to that of the canonical dirham, 2.98 grams. Much of the early heavier Abbasid gold coinage was clumsily clipped in an attempt to conform with the later weight. (350 - 400 GBP)
