Islamic Coins, Fatimid, al-Mustansir, dinar, Zabid 447h, wt. 2.04gms. (Nicol 1738a; A. 1075.1), very fine, very rare
It is likely that this coin was struck by the Sulayhids of the Yemen in the name of the Fatimid caliph, who was the spiritual leader of the Shi'a Muslims in Egypt and the Yemen at this time. Nicol, in his book on the Fatimid coinage, records that coins of this type from Zabid in 445h. are rare, and that only one of Zabid 447h is known. Later in this year the Zabid mint adopted the design of the contemporary dinar coinage issued by al-Mustansir in the lands he ruled. (1500 - 1800 GBP)
