Islamic Coins, 'Alid of Qazwin, al-Husayn b. Ahmad (c. 250-253h), dirham, Qazwin 253h, wt. 2.76gms (A. H1524), pierced, good very fine, extremely rare
This exceedingly rare dirham, although pierced, is a beautiful example of the artistry that went into the creation of its dies. Al-Husayn was, however, a usurper who set himself up in Qazwin and was able to hold it for three years, between 250 and 253 h. Album records that the word al-thaghr ("frontier") found in the obverse field demarcated the border between the Shi'a city of Qazwin and the Sunni states to the south. (400 - 500 GBP)
