Victory standing facing, head left, holding staff terminating in inverted staurogram; star to left; in exergue, CONOB. D.O. 1. Sear 55. AV. g. 4.51 mm. 22.00 A superb example. Broad flan, underlying luster. EF. The reverse type, with the traditional female Victory, was only issued up to 28 March 519 when the union with Rome was concluded. After this event the following type, with male Angel, was introduced and subsequently became the standard reverse for the solidus (D.R. Sear, Byzantine coins, p. 44).
