This coin is an especially clear example of the practice of overstriking, utilising a Punic Carthaginian bronze of the Tanit / Bull with star above type, cf. Charles Hersh NC 1953, p.40 "16. Light sextantal sextans (Mercury r./prow r. - m.m. C) overstruck on Sardo-Punic (Tanit l./bull r. ; above, large star) ; as Müller, ii, p. 146, 8; Hunter, iii, p. 599, 131 f., a coin issued between c. 240- 200 b.c". For the British Museum overstrike examples cited by Hersh see Ghey, Leins & Crawford 2010 63.6.1, 63.6.4, 63.6.7.
