1873 1C Closed 3 MS65 Red and Brown PCGS. CAC. Close 3 coinage of all denominations was produced early in the year, prior to Archibald L. Snowden noticing that the 3 more resembled an 8, resulting in the use of a different-style 3. The obverse of this piece is almost all red, while more mellowing is seen across the reverse. Sharply defined throughout. Population: 43 in 65 (2 in 65+) Red and Brown, 4 finer. CAC: 11 in 65, 1 finer (4/17).
