Bust Half Dollars
1819 50C O-112, R.3, MS65 PCGS. CAC. A Mint-made die line connects the tops of the TE in STATES, a unique pick-up point for the conditionally rare Overton-112. The numerals in the date are more widely spaced than many 1819 varieties. Dappled apple-green and chestnut-gold shades overlie lustrous pearl-gray surfaces. The strike is bold, and marks are confined to a few exceedingly minor grazes in the left obverse field. The natural eye appeal is terrific.
Stephen Herrman's Spring 2017 roster reports that this coin sits at the top of the Condition Census for the variety, tied with two other Gem examples. Based on auction prices realized, the present coin realized almost double the price of the other two MS65 coins despite being then-holdered in an MS64 holder with a gold CAC seal. It has since been upgraded to MS65 in the present holder with a green CAC seal of endorsement. Population (all non-overdated 1819 varieties combined): 5 in 65 (1 in 65+), 1 finer. CAC: 3 in 65, 1 finer (4/17).
