Seated Half Dollars
1891 50C WB-101 MS66+ PCGS. CAC. Although not designated as such, this Premium Gem example from the last issue of Liberty Seated half dollars exhibits prooflike surfaces due to strongly mirrored fields. Faint toning is present in hues of tan and bluish-gray. The strike is sharp overall, with minor incompleteness at the upper obverse and the lower portion of the eagle. The mintage increased to 200,000 pieces in the final year of the long-running Seated half design, but apparently only a few high-grade examples were saved by nostalgic collectors. Population: 4 in 66+, 3 finer. CAC: 11 in 66, 2 finer (4/17).
