Walking Liberty Half Dollars
1920-D 50C MS65 PCGS. The 1920-D Walking Liberty half dollar is more elusive than its mintage of 1.5 million pieces would suggest, and the issue is an underrated "sleeper" outside of series specialists. Although the 1920-D has a reputation as a strike rarity, most examples seen exhibit at least some emerging detail on the central obverse (admittedly, the strike on Liberty's head is usually weak). The real objection to most 1920-D Walkers is their subdued luster characteristics, which can vary widely.
Fortunately, this delightful Gem offers unusually vibrant mint luster on both sides, with well-preserved surfaces that show a few subtle hints of golden-tan toning. The strike is typical for the issue, with some separation evident between Liberty's thumb and fingers on the wreath hand, but soft definition on the head. The 1920-D is very scarce in MS65 condition, and finer coins are condition rarities. Population: 47 in 65, 7 finer (4/17).
