Seated Dollars
1859-S $1 AU58 PCGS. OC-2, R.4. Repunched 18. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. The first silver dollar issue from the San Francisco Mint had a low mintage of only 20,000 pieces. This example is well-struck with minimally toned silver-gray surfaces. Hints of mint luster cling to the devices. The high points show modest wear, and a scattering of field marks and hairlines exist on each side. Still, this is a pleasing and desirable near-Mint representative of an important S-Mint issue. The scarce OC-2 variety features the date further right, with digits 1 and 8 noticeably repunched at the bottom on this early die state example. Population: 17 in 58, 23 finer (4/17).
