Morgan Dollars
1893-CC $1 MS64 PCGS. A small mintage of 677,000 Morgan dollars was struck at the Carson City Mint in 1893, the last year of coinage operations at the famous Western facility. All the silver dollars were struck before May 23, and the mintage was either released into circulation, or placed in government storage, to be paid out over the years. By the time of the great GSA sales of the 1970s, only one 1893-CC Morgan dollar was left in the government stockpile.
The present coin is an attractive Choice specimen, with sharply detailed design elements throughout. A network of spidery die cracks is evident through the letters in the reverse legends and some clash marks are evident near the wreath. The well-preserved brilliant surfaces show only minor signs of contact and eye appeal is outstanding. PCGS has graded 15 numerically finer examples (4/17).
