Proof Morgan Dollars
1921 $1 Zerbe PR63 ★ NGC. Zerbe proofs are a controversial issue, supposedly struck at the behest of prominent numismatist Farran Zerbe. Per VAMworld.com, researcher Ash Harrison studied 1921 Morgan dollars designated as Zerbe proofs by the leading third party grading services. He determined that they were typically VAM-1AG, identified by specific die scratches on both sides of the coin. These are evident on the present coin, as is the line to the dentils from the second U in UNUM, the chief diagnostic for VAM-47, the traditional Zerbe proof assignment. This is a brilliant, satiny, and fully struck specimen with exemplary surfaces for the Select level.
