Peace Dollars
1928-S $1 MS65 NGC. From a mintage of 1.6 million pieces, the 1928-S Peace dollar is surprisingly elusive in high grade and the rarest issue of the series at the MS65 grade level. The 1928-S was not well-produced in general, and striking problems were the rule, rather than the exception, with this issue. Additionally, the 1928-S was somewhat overlooked by contemporary collectors, and relatively few examples were saved in pristine condition.
The present coin is an attractive Gem, with a much better-than-average strike and vibrant, satiny mint luster throughout. The well-preserved surfaces are visited by attractive highlights of greenish-gold, lavender-gray, violet, and amber toning. Overall eye appeal is terrific. Census: 42 in 65, 1 finer (5/17).
