Liberty Eagles
1838 $10 XF45 PCGS. CAC. The ornate Obverse of 1838 is usually collected by type enthusiasts via the 1839 issue, which is the more available of the two options. The entire population of the 1838 gold eagle is estimated at just 80 to 100 coins, surviving from a small mintage of 7,200 pieces. Only a handful of examples are known in Mint State. This CAC-approved Choice XF coin offers the collector a well-detailed but still accessible option with original orange-gold surfaces that yield shades of silvery-green and pale lavender when tilted beneath a light. The strike is sharp, and the surfaces are devoid of any unsightly marks. The visual appeal of this piece is exceptional. Population: 21 in 45, 28 finer. CAC: 3 in 45, 2 finer (4/17).
