Liberty Double Eagles
1878-S $20 MS62+ NGC. The 1878-S Liberty double eagle claims a large mintage of 1.7 million pieces, but the issue circulated heavily and examples in MS62 condition are elusive in today's market, while finer coins are very rare. This Plus-graded MS62 specimen exhibits well-detailed design elements and lustrous canary yellow surfaces that show a scattering of grade-consistent contact marks. Considerable traces of prooflike reflectivity are evident in selected areas. NGC has graded seven numerically finer examples (5/17).
