Liberty Double Eagles
1882-CC $20 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1-A. In Mint State, the 1882-CC double eagle is scarce and exists primarily in MS62 and lower grades, where eye appeal is often lacking due to heavy abrasions and bagmarks. A more affordable option that occasionally comes with smooth, attractive surfaces is an AU58 coin. Here offered is a partially lustrous yellow-gold near-Mint example with limited surface marks and sharp detail. The obverse displays frosty patina, while the reverse has deeply prooflike fields, produced by a freshly polished die. The originality of the coloration is unquestioned. Carson City gold is seldom seen with the "two-faced" appearance of this 1882-CC double eagle.
