High Relief Double Eagles
1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim MS60 NGC. Both sides have an almost complete wire rim on this Uncirculated High Relief double eagle. The luminous peach-gold coloration is original, and there is no discernible wear on the devices. Scattered light marks limit the numeric grade but are less distracting than the light cleaning that is seen on many pieces that are graded one or two points finer. There is a faint rim bump on the reverse at the eagle's head that is not immediately noticed.
High Relief Saints are frequently offered in the lower Uncirculated grades, but it is unusual for a problem-free coin to receive an MS60 designation, as opposed to MS61 or MS62. A great many of the low-end Uncirculated pieces that we have handled were Details-graded only, with no numeric designation. Demand for problem-free, low-end Uncirculated High Reliefs never subsides.
