Patterns
1880 $1 Metric Dollar, Judd-1645, Pollock-1845, High R.6, PR64+ Cameo NGC. On the obverse, the head of Liberty faces left and 13 stars encircle the rim with the motto above and date below the portrait. The reverse offers a wreath of cotton and wheat and an inner circle of dots enclosing the legends. Struck in goloid with a reeded edge. The High R.6 rarity rating makes this pattern, while nonetheless rare, among the more available goloid metric designs. Examples of this design were also struck in copper and aluminum. This is an especially attractive example whose fields are deeply reflective, setting off a cameo effect against the frosted design motifs. Milky brilliance is surrounded by a thin ring of russet around the denticles. Metric dollars are rarely found this fine, presenting quite an opportunity for the pattern collector.
