Proof Barber Half Dollars
1911 50C PR65 PCGS. By 1911, the Barber design had lost favor with many collectors, numismatists, and politicians. Perhaps undermined by the excitement over the Saint-Gaudens gold issues and the Lincoln cent, the serviceable Barber Liberty Head motif hung on for another five years with declining mintages of both proofs and business strikes. Just 543 proofs were struck in 1911. This Gem survivor is nicely mirrored beneath thin olive-gray patina, with the reverse less toned than the obverse. A sharply struck proof, scarce in PR65 or finer. Population: 29 in 65, 26 finer (4/17).
