Morgan Dollars
1888 $1 MS67 NGC. Both the 1887 and 1888 issues were struck in huge quantities at the Philadelphia Mint, yet neither date provides a proportionately large number of Superb Gem coins. Dies were pushed past their limits, and few outstanding examples were ever produced (much less survived). This brilliant 1888 example is nearly mark-free and sharply struck to earn its well-deserved MS67 grade. NGC and PCGS combined have certified a mere 126 coins at the Superb Gem level, which includes only a single numerically finer piece. NGC Census: 89 in 67 (2 in 67+, 3 in 67★), 1 finer (5/17).
