Liberty Half Eagles
1843-C $5 XF45 PCGS. CAC. Variety 2. The mintmark is fractionally further left compared to Variety 1. Doug Winter writes: "This date seems to have been heavily used in local commerce and the typical surviving example is well circulated with numerous deep marks. ... Attractive lower priced specimens (in the VF and EF range) are extremely hard to find." This is one such example with recognition from CAC for its originality and eye appeal. Well-struck for the facility with light yellow-gold color and few significant abrasions. Population: 21 in 45, 52 finer. CAC: 4 in 45, 8 finer (4/17).
