1855-S $20 AU55 NGC. Large S Mintmark. The vast majority of 1855-S double eagles have the Medium S mintmark, but a small percentage of the coins have a Large S shown by this About Uncirculated example. Lightly worn surfaces retain a modest amount of mint luster but the fields and motifs are speckled by numerous tiny abrasions from transport and brief circulation. Bright sun-gold color shines from both sides.
