John Comnenus-Ducas. As emperor of Thessalonica, 1237-1242. BI Trachy (14mm, 1.41 g, 12h). Thessalonica mint. Cross surrounded by four stars / Lis-tipped staff between facing busts of emperor and St. Demetrius. Cf. DOC (37); CLBC 14.28.2 (R5); cf. SB 2222. Near VF, dark brown to black patina, obverse weakly struck, some light smoothing. Extremely rare, with most known specimens being brockage strikes.
