Trajan Decius. ; Trajan Decius; 249-251 AD, Synnada, Phrygia, AE 30-31, 11.67g. RPC-temp. 875 (2 spec.), SNG Aulock-8451 (same obv. die). Obv: ???.? G ?.?O - V. - .???? ?E?IC (sic).c Radiate, draped, cuirassed bust r. Rx: CVN - N - ?EO? Zeus seated l. holding Nike and scepter. Ex Rosenblum Sale, 27 June 1988, lot 151. Rare, only two specimens recorded by RPC online; the illustrated one, in BM ex SNG Aulock 8451, is from the same obverse die as ours. Four other reverse types, RPC 878, 879, 880, and 891 were also struck with the same obverse die. ?E?IC rather than ?E?IOC in the obverse legend shows that the mint was ignorant of the correct spelling of the emperor's name; on another die (RPC-881) the same error is repeated in the accusative case, ?E?IN rather than the correct ?E?ION.
