Hostilian as Caesar. AE 25; Hostilian as Caesar; 250-251 AD, Baris, Pisidia, AE 25, 7.91g. The types on both sides unpublished in this module; cf. RPC-922 (1 spec.). Obv: MEC[C]I[O]C KVINTOC K Bare-headed, draped, cuirassed bust r. Rx: BAP - H - NON Zeus seated l. holding Nike and scepter. Purchased from Christian Blom, 16 August 1973. From a new obverse die and with a new reverse type for Hostilian at Baris. Hostilian's previously known large-size obverse die at this mint shows his bust seen from the front, and has his legend in the accusative case (RPC-922). On our die his bust is seen from the back, and his name is in the nominative case, as on his previously known small-size die at Baris (RPC-923 and 924). As to the reverse, a Jupiter seated type was known, but with the god holding a patera and his eagle standing behind his seat (RPC-922). On our coin Jupiter holds Victory instead, and his eagle is absent.
