Hostilian as Augustus. ; Hostilian as Augustus; 251 AD, Aegeae, Cilicia, AE 24-25.5, 10.23g. RPC-1457 (6 spec.), pl. 100 (same dies). Obv: G ?V ?? ? ?V[???]?? T ?V ???? Laureate, draped, cuirassed bust r. Rx: ??[G?]???? - ???????V around, date [???] in exergue, Draped and veiled bust of Hygieia r. wearing stephane, serpent below her chin feeding from patera. Purchased from Christian Blom, 17 December 1968. Rare: from the same dies as the six specimens listed by RPC-1457. Hostilian's obverse legend is enigmatic: for the letters T?V Ziegler once suggested the expansion "son of the deified Quintus", tentatively accepted by RPC, p. 10, but Ziegler has more recently abandoned that interpretation.
