Fengtien. Kuang-hsü Dollar CD 1903 MS64 NGC, KM-Y92.1, L&M-482. A marvelous example of this rare issue, the first by Fengtien Province after a four-year hiatus after 1899. This issue also marked a return by this provincial mint to the Kuping Mace/Candareen weight standard it had initially utilized with its first issue in 1897. The quality of this example is immediately apparent in hand, with full, velvety luster accentuating needle-sharp details throughout the design elements. A scattering of russet and pearlescent tone adds visual interest while softening the luster and drawing the eye to the central devices. Truly, this is a coin destined for the finest of Provincial Chinese collections.
