PAX FVNDATA CVM PERSIS Pax standing facing, head left, holding olive branch in right hand and scepter in left. Cohen 113. RIC 69. Good very fine.


This coin commemorates the peace agreement between Philip and Shapur, in which the humiliated Romans agreed to pay a tribute of 50 Million Sestertii to the Sasanids. Nonetheless, the imperial propaganda marked the treaty as a huge success and Philip assumed the victory title 'Persicus Maximus'.
