MEROVINGIANS. Tours (region). Circa 740-780. Denier (Silver, 10 mm, 1.25 g). Pentagram with central pellet. Rev. Central globule within dotted circle; around, blundered legend. Belfort 3633-3634. Savonières 32. Beautifully toned and with a perfectly centered obverse on a full flan. An exceptional example. Extremely fine.


This type has been attributed to the city of Chinon, but the often-blundered legends make a definite reading difficult.
