KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III 'the Great', 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 4.34 g, 1 h), Abydos (?), struck under Antigonos Monophthalmos or Lysimachos, circa 310-297. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔP[OY] Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, M within corn-wreath; below throne, head of griffin to right. Price 1564. A beautifully toned example of excellent style and with a charming reverse symbol. Extremely fine.
