China Deutsch-Asiatische Bank Shanghai $200 1.7.1914 Pick S288r. We are fortunate and pleased to offer several notes on this rare and popular bank in this auction. This $200 remainder grades PMG Choice Uncirculated 63. Shanghai was the only office of DAB to have this denomination printed and then only for the last issue of July 1914. The assassinations of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife occurring on June 28, 1914 plus the opening moves of World War I had to hamper the distribution of this note that was printed by Giesecke & Devrient of Germany. We have auctioned only one S288r previously. It graded PMG 64 and realized $25,095 last December. Tonight's example should at least seriously challenge that earlier winning bid. HID08701242017
