THESSALY, Larissa. Circa 440-400 BC. AR Trihemiobol (12mm, 1.39 g, 7h). Thessalian warrior, holding two spears, on horse trotting left / [ΛΑPΙΣΑ], Larissa seated right on chair, holding mirror and raising hand to head. BCD Thessaly II 362.3; HGC 4, 467 var. (Larissa left). VF, toned, some porosity.

From the BCD Collection, purchased from Nomos AG, October 1975.

A note from BCD from the Triton sale: In contrast to the other reverses, this one seems to record a scene that takes place indoors. There is a rather elaborate cover on the chair and the nymph is wearing an elegant dress and a drop earring. Perhaps the artist is alluding to a scene from real life, like preparing for a dance or a special occasion.
