France, Michel de Beauclerc, Marquis of Mirabeau, state councillor, oval bronze medal attributed to Jean Warin, high relief bust right in ruff collar, rev., Fortune, Daedalus and Icarus, Fortune seizing a wing from Icarus, 55.7mm x 48.2mm (Mazerolle 697; Warin 70), pierced, lacquered, contemporary cast, extremely fine and very rare. Mazerolle originally attributed the medal to Guillaume Dupré but re-attributed it to Jean Warin in Warin (1932), p. 97 following J. de Foville's 1913 study of that medallist. A variant gives the sitter's age as 26 (Maz. 698), missing from the present version.
