Ionia, Phokaia. AE 13 (12.79 mm, 1.26 g, 2 h). Young male bust, bare-headed and draped, right; caduceus over shoulder, dotted border (large dots widely spaced) / ΦΩ / ΔHMHT[...] / MENIΠ[...], forepart of griffon flying right. SNG Copenhagen --; SNG von Aulock. VF / near VF, light green patina, parts of reverse legend lost to lamination or die breakage. Rare, apparently unpublished.

This is a puzzling piece. It is obviously from Phokaia and is similar to a well-known type, but nowhere does it seem to be published with these anomalous characteristics - no petasos on the bust, the ΦΩ is to the left of the griffon rather than divided by it, and there was some issue - perhaps lamination of flan or die, which causes a large portion of the reverse to be blank. It is not to be found in SNG Copenhagen or von Aulock.
