Macedonian Kingdom. Alexander III the Great. 336-323 B.C. AR drachm (17.68 mm, 3.82 g, 9 h). Colophon mint, struck ca. 323-319 B.C. Head of Alexander as Hercules right wearing lion-skin headdress, paws tied at neck / ΑΛΕΞΝAΥ[...?] (sic), title vertically downwards behind Zeus Aetephoros enthroned left, right leg drawn back, holding eagle and scepter; ΠΛ in monogram in field to left, B beneath throne . Apparently unpublished, but possibly P 1770 var. (control). VF , original circulation toning, style possibly indicative of a comtemporary copy.

The controls on the reverse of this drachma correspond to those on P 48c - in the name of Philip III, although the piece otherwise seems close to P 1770 - Alexander III from Colophon
