New York. August 2, 1775. One Shilling. NY-172. "NEW-YORK WATER WORKS" across the top in red. Steam operated water pump on the dark paper back. Unissued. Very Fine. Trimmed close to the design at the top. . According to Newman, 2,000 of these notes were authorized, but they were not emitted. Newman reports that a proof exists. Our example appears to be on regular paper, and as such may well be the only one known. Neither Ford nor Newman had a One Shilling from this issue. A great New York Colonial rarity that may not be obtainable from any other source.
Estimate: $5,000.00 - $7,500.00
