Charles II (1660-85), silver gaming counter, crowned bust left, rev. incuse, 24mm. (MI i, 487, 106), fine, extremely rare
Hawkins notes 'Notwithstanding their brittle nature, it may be concluded that this and the following two pieces were really used as counters. In the British Museum is preserved a box containing a number of these three pieces, the set no doubt consisting originally of a dozen specimens of each. On the cover is the same portrait of the King as on the counter.'
