Britain, East Anglian Region. Iceni. Early uninscribed issues. Mid-1st century B.C. AR unit (13 mm, 1.12 g, 6 h). Norwolf Wolf Phallic type. Stylized boar with pellet eye right, single foreleg, spear piercing ears; above, pellet-rosette; below, pellet / Horse prancing right; above, pellet triads either side of wheel; below, pellet triads either side of phallic motif. ABC 1582; Van Arsdell 659; BMC 3473-511; SCBC 431. Lightly toned. Good very fine.

The speared-boar on the obverse derives from the Roman denarii of C. Hosidius C.f. Geta (Crawford 407/2). John Hooker has argued that the spear on similar Proto Boar types of the Corieltavi may represent and ""sun-scepter"" (see Celtic Improvisations: An Art Historical Analysis of Coriosolite Coins, BAR 2002: 60-1), and if this is correct it may have a similar significance here
