Britain, Kent Region. Cantiaci. Amminus. Ca. A.D. 30-40. Æ unit (17 mm, 2.00 g, 12 h). Amminus Wreath Box type. Duno... AM in rectangular panel within wreath / DVNO below, horse prancing right. ABC 468; Van Arsdell 193; BMC -; SCBC 190. Extremely rare issue. Green patina with some black in the mottling. Very fine.

From the KJG Collection of British Celtic Coins. Ex Rudd 76 (July 2004), 15.

The son of the powerful Cunobelinus, Amminus ('friend') was installed in Kent by his father to rule on his behalf, but was subsequently expelled by him ca. A.D. 39 or 40. Amminus fled to Caligula for help, and is probably the Adminius mentioned by Suetonius (Gaius 44). The site of the mint whose name name DVNO appears on the reverse of this coin has yet to be identified. Only one other coin of Amminus carries the mint name, although it is likely that the entirety of his coinage was produced there.
