MACEDON (ROMAN PROTECTORATE), Time of Aemilius Paullus. Gaius Publilius, quaestor, circa 168-167 BC. (Bronze, 23 mm, 11.61 g, 12 h), Helmeted head of Roma to right. Rev. ΜΑΚΕΔΟΝΩΝ ΤΑΜΙΟΥ ΓΑΙΟΥ ΠΟΠΛΙΛΙΟΥ in three lines within oak wreath. SNG Cop. 1318. MacKay pl. III, 1. Clear example with a very attractive obverse. Some uncleaned deposits, otherwise, very fine.
The depiction of Roma on the obverse of the coins of the Quaestors can be easily linked to the contemporary silver denarii of the Roman republic.
