Lincoln Cents
1909-S 1C VDB MS66 Red PCGS. Legion today are the advanced collectors who began their numismatic careers with the lowly Lincoln cent. Writing on PCGS' CoinFacts website, Ron Guth's experience is typical of many:

"I have fond memories of going to the bank as a kid, purchasing rolls of cents, and culling out all the 'Wheat Backs' (as we called them back then). Although I never found a 1909-S VDB, a 1914-D, or a 1922 'Plain', I found just about everything else. It was my first experience with coins and one I'll never forget."

The 1909-S VDB was, of course, the prize of the bunch -- but, fortunately, it was saved in quantities unseen in later keys such as the 1914-D or 1922 Plain. This is an especially well-preserved example. The surfaces retain all their original bright red mint luster. A few microscopic specks of carbon can be seen with a magnifier, but we see no abrasions on this immaculate S-VDB.
