Proof Buffalo Nickels
1936 5C Type One -- Satin Finish PR68 NGC. Upon resumption of proof set production by the Mint in 1936, a total of 4,420 proof nickels were struck. Satin Finish proofs were issued early in the year, followed by Brilliant Finish coins in later months. The present coin is a seemingly unimprovable example of the Satin Finish format. The strike is pinpoint sharp throughout both obverse and reverse, while gleaming satin surfaces radiate strong mint luster. The silverlike nickel centers are untoned, surrounded by a attractive caramel-gold toning at the borders. Census: 33 in 68 (1 in 68+, 2 in 68★, 1 in 68+★), 0 finer (5/17).
