Seated Quarters
1865 25C MS65 PCGS. Mint records show a total production of 58,800 circulation-strike quarters at the Philadelphia Mint in 1865, although the actual survival is a an extremely small percentage of that total, due to hoarding of coinage during and after the Civil War. Consider, for example, that PCGS has only certified 24 Mint State examples of this issue, and only four of those coins grade finer than MS64. NGC has certified five examples as MS65, and none finer (5/17). This lovely Gem has frosty silver luster beneath rich rose, gold, and blue toning with a sharp strike and pristine surfaces. Population: 2 in 65, 2 finer (5/17).
