Early Half Dollars
1794 50C O-103, T-10, High R.5, VG10 NGC. Scarce in all circulated grades and unknown in full Mint State, the O-103 variety is seldom seen above VF condition. The obverse of this VG10 example is particularly attractive with slate-gray fields that deepen toward the borders, while light silver-gray patina occupies the raised devices. The date is sharp. Strong definition exists for the grade on the hair, stars, and dentils. The reverse is similarly pleasing, although we note a small planchet flaw at 9 o'clock and an area under the right wing where remnants of horizontal scratches (possibly adjustment marks) are noted.
