Early Dollars
1795 $1 Draped Bust, Centered, B-15, BB-52, R.2, VF35 PCGS. Bowers Die State IV. The design of the silver dollar was changed to the Draped Bust motif partway through the year in 1795. A modest mintage of 42,738 pieces of the new design was accomplished, with two die varieties known for the date and type. This Choice VF specimen represents the BB-52 variety, with the bust centered on the obverse and the highest curl under the E in LIBERTY. Some wear shows on the left side of the drapery, but much interior detail remains intact in the hair. The lightly abraded surfaces show a mix of pleasing gray and steel-blue patina.
