1798 $1 Large Eagle, Pointed 9, Wide Date, B-23, BB-105, R.3, AU55 PCGS Secure. Bowers Die State III. The hair curls near star 1 are lapped, as is cloud 3. In the revised 2013 edition of his Silver Dollar Encyclopedia, Bowers explains that this variety is rare in AU and Mint State grades, listing an AU55 coin among the notable specimens. Hallmarks of this Choice AU dollar include a razor-sharp strike everywhere except the eagle's breast, and lovely original toning in shades of gold, gunmetal-blue, and antique-gray. A single pedigree mark occurs below the R in LIBERTY.
