1897 $1 PR66 PCGS. The three-year span from 1896 to 1898 is famous for exquisite proof U.S. coinage, and this gorgeous Premium Gem from the middle year fits the description. While rim-to-rim dappled lavender and aqua toning on the reverse precludes Cameo status for the coin, the obverse displays a largely silver interior and muted-rainbow peripheral bands that offer clear contrast between the deeply mirrored fields and frosted portrait. Population: 18 in 66, 12 finer (5/17).
