Indian Eagles
1913-S $10 MS62 PCGS. A majority of the 66,000 Indian Head eagles produced at the California mint in 1913 were put into circulation. Those that survive are apt to be found anywhere between VF and AU. In Mint State, the 1913-S ranks among the most difficult issues in the Saint-Gaudens series. It was formerly considered the premier key to the set. Select and Choice Uncirculated representatives are major condition rarities, while comparable MS62 pieces are merely very scarce. As usual, this example displays rich frost over greenish-gold surfaces with areas of granularity in the fields. Strike detail is strong overall with localized softness on the forecurls, eagle's shoulder, and talons. The mintmark is crisp, and scattered abrasions are minimally obtrusive.
