Liberty Double Eagles
1874-CC $20 AU58 PCGS. CAC. Variety 1-A. We have identified six varieties of 1874-CC double eagles, five from a reverse with a widely spaced CC mintmark as on this example, designated as Reverse A. The obverse of this piece is designated Obverse 1 and has a lunular (crescent-shaped) die chip on Liberty's jaw. This near-Mint example has dusky steel-blue toning on the high points that is characteristic of original, uncleaned pieces stored in vaults for many decades. Excellent surfaces exhibit lovely light yellow-gold luster. Population: 78 in 58 (2 in 58+), 21 finer. CAC: 13 in 58, 2 finer (5/17).
