Liberty Double Eagles
1893-CC $20 MS60 PCGS. Variety 2-A. A tiny mintage of 18,402 Liberty double eagles was accomplished at the Carson City Mint in 1893, the final year of coinage operations at the famous Western mint. The issue has a surprisingly high survival rate in high grade, due to a number of coins that were repatriated from foreign holdings in recent years. The availability and relatively high quality of known specimens makes the 1893-CC a popular choice with branch mint type collectors.
The present coin is an impressive Mint State specimen that exhibits well-detailed design elements, with just a touch of softness on some star centers. The lustrous orange-gold surfaces display the usual number of minor contact marks and luster grazes for the grade.
